POCKETFAB SECURE INTERCOM — UBUNTU BETA R2
Ubuntu 24.04, Intel/AMD 64-bit. Prebuilt application; Rust/Cargo not required.

INSTALLATION / UPDATE
1. Extract the archive into a new folder.
2. Close Secure Intercom if it is open.
3. Open Terminal in the extracted folder and run:

   sh install.sh

Run from your normal Ubuntu desktop account, without sudo.
Using sh avoids dependence on whether the archive extractor retains executable bits.
The installer checks dependencies, package integrity, and secure storage before
replacing application files. A prior application copy is retained for recovery.
If the check fails, no application files are replaced. Contact intercom@pocketfab.ai.

4. Open Secure Intercom from the application menu.
5. For a new activation, paste your setup code and select Complete setup.
Existing activation and contacts are retained on upgrade.
6. Choose your microphone and headphones in Ubuntu Sound Settings.
Choose the incoming-call ringer in Secure Intercom and test the audio.
7. Exchange a contact invitation with an activated colleague, then call.

REQUIRED RUNTIME COMPONENTS
Python 3 with Tk, secret-tool (libsecret-tools), GNU timeout, PipeWire,
pw-play, ALSA arecord/aplay, and a usable Secret Service in your desktop session.
If a required component is missing, installation stops with its name.

SIDETONE
Sidetone is disabled in this Ubuntu release. The selector is removed.
Normal call audio and the ringtone use the unchanged, tested runtime.

STATE PRESERVATION
The installer only replaces application files and menu/command launchers.
It does not reset identity, activation, contacts, keyrings, or audio settings.
A successful install/storage check does not replace the need for a live call test.

BETA INSTALLATION LIMITATION
This package still uses a terminal installation step. It is not yet a no-terminal
customer installer. The earlier default-keyring repair was specific to Ghost 21;
this package does not silently change system keyring collections or aliases.
